I have followed these simple 1-2-3 steps to set-up my yahoo email on my HTC Desire handset without any problem and I think it will work with any Android handset.

Hi,

Well, first of all I would like share that last week i got My HTC Desire handset, luckily got good package.

Being new to Android OS, i had spent some time to know inside out of the OS and off course my new device HTC Desire. I was setting up my email accounts and all went well, until I have to set up my yahoo email account.

People were saying different things like you need yahoo plus account to set up yahoo mail on android even some one was talking about Google snatcher to get yahoo emails into Google account and then from there you got Gmail access any way. Seems like long winded process.

I have followed these simple 1-2-3 steps to set-up my yahoo email on my HTC Desire handset without any problem and I think it will work with any Android handset.

Followed these steps

1) Change your location to Yahoo Asia (only yahoo Asia account gives you free access to yahoo POP mail otherwise you have to pay for it.

2) Now go your account settings and enable pop option, by default this option is disabled.

3) Now setup yahoo account on your Android device, that’s it.

It should not give any authentication failed error now, if it does log off your yahoo account to make sure new settings take effect. There you go, we have done here. You should be able to receive mails now.

I have tried and it worked.

Enjoy!

Few days ago, I have noticed that my most visited websites tab disappeared, I thought that might be our Network team, who implemented new policy or it might be the result of new software/settings that made it disappear. Any way it annoyed me a lot. As I use this feature a lot both at work and at home. It gives me an easy option to browse the web sites which I browse regularly, now I have to type the domain every time.

That same day, when I went home, I have observed the same thing, that was very upsetting for me. I have searched on the net and understood that most visited websites tab had expired. http://www.google.com/support/toolbar/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=115561. So I have started to find the reason behind that mystery.

I have found that Microsoft requested Google to remove “most visited websites tag feature” from the Google toolbar that’s why Google acted to remove that feature. If you are interested to read about Microsoft’s Guidelines and requirements for add-ons that extend Internet Explorer then check this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/973764. I think this is very bad move by Microsoft. Different discussions and articles gives only one impression, switch to Firefox or chrome where you can get this feature. If you are brave enough or decided to switch to browsers then go and get from here http://pack.google.com/. I am also very seriously thinking to switch the browser.

Although, I have both Firefox and chrome installed already, it will be the matter of start using one of them.

If you are big fan of IE and at the same time wants to use most visited websites tab, then simply downgrade you IE to previous version and you will get that feature for limited time. Google has plane to remove this feature from all the versions of IE, but it may take some time. Until then you can enjoy.

Please leave comments, if you want add something and if anything changes in the mean while.

You heard right, folks — according to the Wall Street Journal, Apple is currently “developing a new iPhone to debut this summer,” and as if that weren’t enough, it’s also “working on another model for US mobile phone operator Verizon Wireless.” As of this moment, details about the break are nowhere to be found, but it’s not like either tidbit is shocking. This summer will mark the one-year anniversary of the iPhone 3GS, and if the Cupertino-based company keeps with its historical refresh pattern, we’re just a few months out from seeing the latest and greatest iPhone. There’s also been no shortage of iPhone-to-Verizon rumors over the years, with the latest of ‘em happening during the run-up to the iPad’s launch.

Update: We’re now learning that the “next iPhone is being manufactured by Taiwanese contract manufacturer Hon Hai Precision Industry,” which just so happens to be the same outfit responsible for crafting all prior iPhones. That’s according to “people briefed on the matter” and sourced by the WSJ. It’s also stated that the world’s first CDMA iPhone will be manufactured by Pegatron Technology, which we caught just last week dabbling in some of NVIDIA’s Tegra 2-based wares. If all goes well, Pegatron could begin mass production of the CDMA iPhone (exact model not disclosed) this September, so it’s hard to say if Sprint or Verizon would have access before the all-too-lucrative holiday season. As for quotes on the matter? Most everyone involved wouldn’t say a word, but an AT&T spokesman did utter the following: “There has been lots of incorrect speculation on CDMA iPhones for a long time. We haven’t seen one yet and only Apple knows when that might occur.”

On a week that couldn’t possibly get any bigger for Apple, that’s exactly what just happened. Everyone suspected that a fourth-generation iPhone was in the works, but having an outlet like the WSJ confirm it just makes the summer that much harder to wait for. There’s also the possibility that 2010 will be the final year that AT&T retains its death-grip on the iPhone, but by the sound of this report, it still seems as if the nation’s largest GSM carrier may nab exclusive rights on the latest iPhone. We also can’t help but wonder about the future of a true 4G iPhone — will Sprint manage to grab a WiMAX-enabled version? Will Verizon get its grubby paws on an LTE model? We figured only Jobs would know, but now… there might just be someone else out there willing to spill the beans.

Update 2: Soon after the news broke, we were informed that the next-generation iPhone would be announced on June 22nd (a Tuesday, naturally) and would be dubbed the iPhone HD (a name that has been tossed around before). That certainly makes sense given that Apple almost certainly has to up the pixel count in order to rival the EVO 4G, HD2 and all of those other high-res handsets, but we’re still reserving judgment until we see that fateful media invite hit our inbox.

Update 3: John Gruber’s just weighed in with some more tidbits, in his characteristically polite way. Gruber says the next model will have an A4-class SoC, a 960 x 640 display, a front-facing camera, and that iPhone OS 4.0 will enable third-party multitasking. A pretty safe set of predictions, in all, but Gruber’s done pretty well in the past, so we’ll just have to wait and see.

The latest Mobile Metrics Report from mobile advertising firm AdMob confirms what we’ve been seeing over the last year or so: the smartphone market largely belongs to Apple and Google from a platform perspective. It also reveals that “feature” phones have capitulated to smartphones for mobile ad requests, reflecting the growth of smartphones as they slowly begin a march toward dominating the overall mobile market. However, non-phone mobile Internet devices, like the forthcoming iPad, are beginning to be an increasingly important part of the mobile landscape.

According to AdMob’s data, smartphone traffic grew 193 percent over the last 12 months, accounting for half the traffic on its network. Feature phones—what most of us think of as a “regular cell phone”—increased traffic 31 percent in the same time frame, but dropped down from 58 to 35 percent of traffic overall. Traffic from mobile Internet devices, including handheld game consoles, e-readers, and other similar Internet-capable devices, grew a whopping 403 percent, and now accounts for 17 percent of the traffic overall.

For further corroboration, data from our own visitor logs for the last month shows that the iPhone OS accounts for two-thirds of our mobile traffic. Android users are hitting up Ars a little over a quarter of the time, while BlackBerry users are visiting every so often. WinMo, webOS, Symbian, and others are barely a blip on the radar.

The iPad represents yet another opportunity for Apple to grow the iPhone OS platform in the MID category, and early hype suggests that opportunity is a large one. Some manufacturers are adapting Android for tablet-like devices, and it already powers the Nook e-reader. WinMo and RIM won’t likely have similar platform expansion anytime soon, and given Palm’s dire situation, webOS won’t likely see that as an option either. Nokia seems to be positioning MeeGo for MIDs and Symbian for phones, so it’s difficult to predict how that strategy will play out.

Since the release of the browser, Google Chrome has been making headline news for its rapid accelerating growth in the browser market.

Net Applications’ data for January is out, and there are some interesting trends displayed.

Chrome: 5.22% (up from 4.64% in Dec ‘09)

IE: 62.12% (down from 62.69% in Dec ‘09)

Firefox: 24.43% (down from 24.61% in Dec ‘09)

First Google Chrome managed to overtake Safari as the third most popular browser and now with data from Net Market Share revealing that Google Chrome is now taking a chunk out of the usage from Internet Explorer and Firefox, the news just keeps on getting better for Chrome.

The Net Applications data showed Google Chrome was up from 4.64% to 5.20% since December whilst Internet Explorer is down from 62.69% (December) to 62.18%. This is also the same case for Firefox which has seen a drop since December from 24.61% to 24.41%.

The top browser spot has also changed from Internet Explorer 6 to Internet Explorer 8. However, this is not surprising news after yesterday we reported that Google have decided to phase out support for Internet Explorer 6, starting first with Google Docs and Google Sites, prompting people on the IE6 browser to upgrade as soon as possible.

How the new iPhone will try to dominate smartphone proceedings once again

The smartphone world is a different place to the one the iPhone 3GS first made an appearence in. With Android offerings like the Motorola Milestone, the award-winning HTC Hero and Google’s ’superphone’ the Nexus One arriving as potential ‘iPhone killers’, talk of the next Apple smartphone has noticeably gathered momentum in recent months.

Currently being dubbed the iPhone 4G or iPhone 4, whatever you choose to call it, after the iSlate the follow-up to the 3GS will be the next piece of Apple tech everyone clambers to get their hands on.

So what do we know so far about the iPhone 4? Well, we’ve rummaged through the fast-growing pile of speculation and begun piecing together how Apple’s next smartphone could take shape.

Read below for our iPhone 4 rumours round-up:

1. 4G support
Well if we are going to go on the basis that it will be called the iPhone 4G, this looks a virtual certainty. Support for 4G should up data rates significantly and give better access to the net, comfortably delivering data speeds up to 100 megabits per second. That would comfortably put it top of the browsing smartphone pile.

2. OLED screen
A brighter, more colourful screen is strongly rumoured to feature on the iPhone 3GS successor, and while other portable tech offerings such as the Zune HD and Sony’s X-Series Walkman have successfully incorporated the energy-friendly OLED into the confines of a smaller screen, the latest iPhone may well follow suit. 3. 5-Megapixel camera
Apple has taken some flack for its lack of a decent iPhone camera, falling behind the smartphone pack in the snapping stakes. Now Omnivision – a company that provides Apple with image sensors – says it has secured orders for 5-megapixel image sensors for Apple’s next handset. Omnivision predicts that they will supply Apple with 40-45 million units in 2010 compared to an estimated 21 million this year. So put your money on this feature being a main selling point.

4. Dual core processor
With the HTC HD2 and the Google Nexus One packing Qualcomm’s speedy 1Ghz Snapdragon processor, Apple is rumoured to be integrating a ARM Cortex A9 dual-core processor into its latest handset. Delivering clock speed in excess of 2Ghz, it would make the iPhone 4 something of a portable powerhouse.

5. Touch-sensitive case
According to Goldman Sachs analyst Robert Chen, the next iPhone will sport multi-touch technology that covers the body of the handset to create a new innovative way to control your iPhone. As much as touch-sensitive casing sounds like a massive navigational leap for the smartphone, Apple’s recent buyout of Magic-Mouse, who specialise in the technology, could well help bring it to life.

6. Removable battery
Getting to grips with your smartphone’s power source has been a particular issue for many an iPhone owner, but patents spotted by The Register suggest Apple may be about to change all that. Abandoning the use of non-user serviceable batteries would surely appeal, and judging from its success on the Palm Pre it would be a wise move.

7. Video Chat
Another feature to fall off the rumour wagon is the support for video chat, which would come in handy for conferencing and seeing your mate doing his washing while chatting to you on the Apple blower. One crucial element for this feature to work would be the incorporation of a front facing camera, which, funnily enough, is the next thing on the list…

8. Front-facing camera
Coupled with the rumoured arrival of video chat, this makes a whole lot of logistical sense. It would also unlock the possiblities of facial and expression recognition.

9. Location-sharing software
Breaking out with the same Apple patent that points to a front facing camera is the a step up for inbuilt location-based software. The tech would work via texts and instant messages, with the user sharing their location with friends a la Google Latitude. Considering Apple denied the similarly functioning Google Latitude app from its iTunes Store last year, this would be something of a novel addition to what is already sounding like a jam-packed handset.

10. Release date
When will we get our hands on Apple’s follow up to the 3GS? Many are still holding out for an arrival at this week’s Apple event, but it is looking increasingly more likely that a mere upgrade to the iPhone OS 4.0 software will turn up instead.

We would love to hear from our readers, what do you think?

Mozilla has released Firefox 3.6.2 almost a week early after security issues were found in earlier versions.

Firefox 3.6.2 was originally due to launch at the end of March, but is available to download now from the Mozilla website.

The security hole had led the German government to issue a warning about Firefox 3.6.

The Federal Office for Information Security made a similar ruling on the safety of Internet Explorer in January.

It warned that the Firefox vulnerability, confirmed by Firefox makers, could allow hackers to run malicious programs on users’ computers.

Germany’s official cyber-security response team – BurgerCERT – had recommended that users stop using Firefox until the tested fix was released.

It was a move remarkably similar to the January announcement, in which France followed suit just days later.

Fox swap?

The original Firefox vulnerability was confirmed by maker Mozilla last week on its security blog, when it promised that the next official release would address the issue.

It is only the current version that is affected but, given that prior releases have different vulnerabilities, reverting to an older version of the browser is ill-advised.

Switching to a different browser may not be a good solution either, said Graham Cluley, senior technologist at security firm Sophos.

“Switching your web browser willy-nilly as each new unpatched security hole is revealed could cause more problems than it’s worth,” he said.

“What are you going to do when your replacement browser itself turns out to contain a vulnerability?

“My advice is to only switch from Firefox if you really know what you are doing with the browser you’re swapping to. If you stick with Firefox, apply the security update as soon as it’s available.”

A Mozilla spokesperson said: “Last week we informed our users that the upcoming security release of Firefox 3.6.2 would include a fix for an exploit that was disclosed to us just over a week ago.

“Mozilla is aware of the BergerCERT recommendation to avoid using Firefox 3.6, and encourage users to download… Firefox 3.6.2.”
